Commissioned by the International Bachakademie Stuttgart to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the death of J.S. Bach.
World premiere: September 1, 2000 during the European Music Festival Stuttgart, conducted by Velery Gergiev. First part of the two-work cycle "Passion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ according to St. John”. The other composers are: Osvaldo Golijo, Wolfgang Rihm, Tan Dun.
