The Russian soprano, Julia Arsentjeva, studied voice at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire, graduating in 1997.
Julia Arsentjeva made her debut in 1994 at the Moscow Opera Studio as Zerlina in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni and Marfa in Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's The Tsar's Bride. In 2000, she sang the role of Adele in Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus at the Moscow Helicon Opera, where she was a soloist until 2009. During these years, she enjoyed great success in principal roles including Norina in Don Pasquale, Olympia in The Tales of Hoffmann, Serpina in Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's La serva padrona, Rita in Donizetti's Rita, Thisbe in Pyramus und Thisbe, Вastienne in W.A. Mozart's Bastien und Bastienne and Despina in W.A. Mozart's Сosì fan tutte.
Julia Arsentjeva was now also gaining an international reputation. In 2001 she was a prize-winner at the 19th International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna, her award being the role of Adele at the Vienna Chamber Opera. In 2002 she sang Arsena in The Gypsy Baron in the Summer Arena at the Baden operetta festival, near Vienna. From 2003 until 2007, she was also an ensemble member at Opera Theatre in Görlitz, Germany, where she was highly acclaimed as the Queen of the Night in W.A. Mozart's Magic Flute. In Salzburg, she sang Euterpe in Gluck's Il parnaso confuso in 2009.
Julia Arsentjeva spent the years 2008-2010 in post-graduate training at Salzburg Mozarteum University, specialising in lied and oratorio with Breda Zakotnik, whose lied performance master-class (held by the Hugo Wolf Society in Slovenj Gradec/Slovenia) she attended. She also expanded her artistic scope by attending seminars in gesture, singing, declamation and baroque dance with Margit Legler in Seitenstetten Abbey (Lower Austria), and took part in master-classes held by Sona Ghazarian and Gustav Kuhn.
At home in many languages, Julia Arsentjeva is a versatile singer, and her clear, expressive lyric soprano extends to coloratura performance. Since 2010, she has made her home in Salzburg, where she sings in W.A. Mozart concerts, as well as giving lieder recitals and performing with chamber ensembles in Austria and Germany. Mozartiana Classics released a CD of W.A. Mozart arias in 2012. |
