Bach-Kantorei (Choir)

Founded: 1985 - Teufen, Appenzell-Ausserrhoden/Switzerland

The Bach-Kantorei Appenzeller Mittelland (central country) was created in 1985, in the year of the 300th birthday of its name patron, J.S. Bach, in Teufen (Appenzell-Ausserrhoden/Switzerland). The Bach-Kantorei had set itself the goal of making a contribution to the Bach year in this region. Since that time the choir under the direction of its founder Wilfried Schnetzler continues working regularly and appears in concerts and performances, which receive attention beyond Teufen. In the Bach-Kantorei participate singers from towns of the Appenzeller Mittelland, but also from adjacent regions.

In 1994 the Bach-Kantorei received an acknowledgement and a promotion prize of the Ausserrhodischen Kulturstiftung. Apart from the music J.S. of Bach, to which the Bach-Kantorei feels specifically connected and committed, it performs gladly also music of other eras and styles. Except its concert work, the Bach-Kantorei also fulfils official service tasks in the Evangelist Kirchgemeinde Teufen.
