Anna Sophia Backhaus (Soprano)

Born: 1985 - Görlitz, Saxony, Germany

The German soprano, Anna Sophia Backhaus, studied from 2004 at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar, obtaining her diploma in singing / music theater in 2011. She also attended master-classes with Irwin Gage, Karl-Peter Kammerlander and Stelia Doz and participated in numerous Lied programs.

Anna Sophia Backhaus made herropera debut at the Theater Nordhausen as Sandman in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel. She also guested at the Theater Eisenach and at the Goethe-Theater Bad Lauchstädt as Nerea in George Frideric Handel's Deidamia, at the Landestheater Meiningen as Klärchen in Weißen Rössl, as Köchin in the operette Das Feuerwerk at Landestheater Eisenach and as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel with the Jenaer Philharmonie. Since 2010, she has been an ensemble member of the Kinderoper Bravissimo. After finishing her her studies in 2011, she was a soloist and ensemble member of the Vox Humana Chamber Choir in Victoria, Canada.

Anna Sophia Backhaus is a freelance singer and spokeswoman living in Berlin and collaborates with other musicians, authors and freelance artists. Since the winter semester 2014-2015 she is a lecturer in the subject " Musikästhetik " at the FH Erfurt. She apears in Germany with the Duo Harfe und Sopran in concerts and booking tours. With the Trio Tingel Tangel she lives her passion for the music of the 20s. With the women's quartet Vokalensemble Viererlei she won the prize of the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy-Wettbewerb at the Universität der Künste Berlin (2010) and participated in the Leipzig A Cappella Competition.

In addition to opera and Lieder singing Anna Sophia Backhaus has a passion of sacred music and early music. She has performed twice at the Early Music Festival Jean de la Fontaine in Chateau Thierry, France. She has a wide-ranging repertoire of sacred music and has been a sought-after singer for oratorios and cantatas. She received a scholarship in the promotion of the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now, Leipzig, e.V.

Anna Sophia Backhaus is also a freelancer as artistic spokeswoman for features in SWR2. She has had guest appearance as a speaker at the Philharmonie concert " Mythos Orpheus " with the Jenaer Philharmonie; Readings with harp in the series Book strings: "Die Nachtigall und die Rose", "Bist du sicher, Martinus?"; Reading "Erotisches Walpurgis" with Menantes Prize in Schloss Ettersburg. Narrator in the Lieder cycle Die Schöne Magelone with the baritone Yuni Chi and the pianist Friederike Wiesner; "Geistermelodien" - Schubert's melodramas with the duo FourTe.

Anna Sophia Backhaus Sophia activities as a moderator includes: Nnewscaster and co-presenter at Radio Lotte Weimar; Moderation of the concert series "Magical Ettersburg"; Moderator of the closing and prize winners concerts at the Deutscher Chorwettbewerb 2014 of the Deutschen Musikrats and the Landeswettbewerbe "Jugend musiziert" und "Jugend jazzt" of the Landesmusikrates Thüringen.
