Maria Bernius (Soprano)

Born: Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

The German soprano, Maria Bernius, graduated with honors studying with Cheryl Studer at the University of Music in Würzburg and with Barbara Locher at the University of Music Lucerne. She completed her studies with distinction and was awarded a career grant by the Lucerne Festival. |

During her studies, Maria Bernius developed a wide range of roles from Baroque opera to contemporary music, for example she played the leading role with the Yuuko Amanuma’s Chamber Opera The Tell-Tale Heart at the Tagen der Neuen Musik Würzburg 2007, which brought her the opportunity to go to Japan in 2009. In 2005, she won the Gebrüder-Graun award for her interpretation of Venus in Carl Heinrich Graun’s Il Giudizio di Paride. In 2010 followed the award from the Kiefer-Hablitzel-Stiftung.

In concert performances, Maria Bernius could be watched at the Mozartfest Würzburg as Zelina and Susanna. She worked with the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker under the direction of Gabriel Feltz in Puccini’s Suor Angelica and also in 2007 Rossini’s scenic Cenerentola and more recently in W.A. Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. Recent engagements have taken her to the Theater Luzern, to the Mainfrankentheater Würzburg and the Opera Halle.

A lively concert career, both nationally and internationally, is the main focus of her creative activity. Maria Bernius gives numerous concerts with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Heidelberger Philharmoniker, Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, Capriccio Basel, La Banda and Barockorchester L'arpa festante. She has performed at numerous festivals, such as the Würzburger Bachtage, the Bachwoche Ansbach, the Budapest Spring Festival, the Easter Festival Tyrol, the Lucerne Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival and under the direction of Ton Koopman at the Carnegie Hall New York. She was a member of the Kammerchor Stuttgart (Director: Frieder Bernius).
