Heleen Bongenaar (Soprano)

Born: June 26, 1995 - Kerkwijk, the Netherlands

The Dutch soprano, Heleen Bongenaar, started singing at the age of 13 with Sylvia van der Vinne and sang in the choir school Senta (also directed by Sylvia). From the age of 17 she started entering competitions and won prizes. At the Prix Dominique in Venlo she won the 2nd prize, at the Euregio Vokall Wettbewerb she won the 1st prize and at the Prinses Christina Concours she won an Eervolle Vermelding (Honourable Mention) and a 3rd prize in the regional finals (she won this price with singing Aus Liebe will mein Heiland sterben from J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion BWV 244).

In 2013, Heleen Bongenaar joined Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe) to sing the ripieni parts of J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) and toured through Europe for two weeks. After the tour she started taking lessons with Peter Kooy to specialize more in the music of J.S. Bach. In 2014, she started the study classical singing at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Maria Acda. She currently follows a minor early music with Peter Kooy, Michael Chance, Robin Blaze, Pascal Bertin and Dorothee Mields.

Heleen Bongenaar frequently sings J.S. Bach's Cantatas as a soloist, for example with the Gelders Bach Collegium in Apeldoorn with the director Wolfgang Lange.
