Brahms-Chor Stuttgart (Choir)

Founded: September 1991 - Stuttgart, Germany

The Brahms-Chor Stuttgart appeared for the first time in public with a performance of the D major Mass of A. Dvořák at the European Music Festival Stuttgart in September 1991. The choir meets to three to four concert projects in the year. In the centre of the choir's work is sacred and secular choral music of Johannes Brahms, which are combined with fastidious a-cappella-compositions of different eras, from Monteverdi to the 20th century music. The repertoire of the choir also includes the big oratorio works, such as Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) by J.S. Bach, Messiah by G.F. Händel, Requiem of W.A. Mozart and Elias by F. Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.

In 1997 the work of the Brahms-Chor Stuttgart was particularly promoted by the " Stuttgarter Chorinitiative ". The choir gave premiere performances of the compositions Wir sind ein Teil der Erde and Kyrie by the Stuttgart composer Eva Schorr. A concert tour led the choir to Moscow, where they performed Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) at the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow. In 2000 the choir followed an invitation Prague, where they sang the Requiem of Antonio Rosetti at St. Nikolaus, which in 1791 was had been sung for the first time on the occasion of the official death celebration of the city Prague to the Mozart's' death at this church and was performed again for the first time after two hundred years.
