Gilbert Brungardt (Choral Conductor)

Born: 1930 - near Victoria, Kansas, USA
Died: December 29, 2010 - Timonium, Maryland, USA

The American choral conductor and music pedagogue, Gilbert Ambrose Brungardt, the son of cattle and wheat farmers, was born and raised on the plains of Western Kansas near Victoria. He was a 1948 graduate of St. Joseph's Seminary in Rensselaer, Indiana. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1952 in music education from Fort Hays State College in Hays, Kansas, and had served with the National Guard in the early 1950’s.

Gilbert Brungardt, was professor of music, was chairman of the music department and later dean of Towson University's College of Fine Arts and Communication in Maryland. He was also music and choral director at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Towson, Maryland. He died in 2010 of cancer at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium, aged 80.
