Robert Buckland (Tenor)

Born: October 31, 1975 - Přerov, the Olomouc Region, Czech Republic

The Dutch lyrical tenor, Robert Buckland, received his early musical training as a chorister in Regensburger Domspatzen (until 1995). He studied at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague (2001-2008) with Barbara Pearson, Diane Forlano and Peter Kooy and had master-classes and Coachings with Michael Chance, Jill Feldman and Marius van Altena. He finished his studies cum laude in June 2008 and was a member of the ensemble of the Operastudio Nederland in the 2008-2009 season. During his studies he has performed regularly with some of Europe’s top ensembles including the Huelgas Ensemble (since 2003), Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe), Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Director: Jos van Veldhoven), and Vox Luminis (since 2005; Director: Lionel Meunier)).

As a soloist Robert Bucland has performed both Arias and Evangelist in J.S. Bach’s Christmas and Passion Oratorios, other oratorios by Felix Mendelssohn, Reinhard Keiser, Stradella, Monteverdi and Georg Philipp Telemann, several Haydn, Schubert and W.A. Mozart masses, numerous (J.S. Bach) cantatas, Requiems and Operas such as George Frideric Handel's Acis and Galathea (Acis), Siroe (Arasse), Lotario (Berengario), Haydn’s Philemon und Baucis (Philemon), Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (Aeneas), King Arthur and The Fairy Queen, working with Conductors such as Frieder Bernius, Andreas Spering, Pieter Jan Leusink, Joshua Rifkin, Jan Willem de Vriend, Jos van Veldhoven, Guy van Waas and Peter Van Heyghen and orchestras such as Concerto Köln, Les Muffatti, Combattimento Consort Amsterdam, Israel Sinfonietta and Les Agrémens. He performed Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe in New York and Franz Schubert’s die Schöne Müllerin in Oslo and the Hague. He currently lives in Bregenz, Vorarlberg, Austria.
