Sébastien Droy (Tenor)

Born: 1975 - Reims, France

The French tenor, Sébastien Droy, studied at the Conservatoire National de Musique of Paris with Mireille Alcantara. He received First Prize in Singing at the Conservatoire National de Musique de Paris in 2003. He holds a Masters degree in musicology from the Sorbonne, a CAPES (Certificate of Aptitude for Teaching Study Second degree) in music education and a First Prize in chromatic bass accordion of the Conservatoire de La Courneuve. He participated as an actor-singer in Noémie Lowsky's Les Sentiments, and sang in Lille in a lyrical creation by Graciane Finzi.

Sébastien Droy's professional career began with Arthur Honegger’s Aventures du Roi Pausole at the Opéra de Fribourg (Freiburg) in 2003. Since then he has sang a wide number of roles, among them Ottavio (Don Giovanni) and Les Mousquetaires au Couvent (Gontran) in Tours, Almaviva (Il Barbiere di Seviglia) in Rennes, Ferrando (Cosi fan tutte) at the Festival d'Art Lyrique de Touraine, Il re Teodoro in Venizia by Paisiello at Festival Montpellier. More recently, he sang Almaviva (Le Barbier de Séville) in Nancy and Tours, Ottavio (Don Giovanni) at the Festival de Loches, Pylade (Iphigénie en Tauride) in Tours, Tom Jones by Philidor in Lausanne, Il Re Pastore in concert at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and the Innsbruck Festival, Vénus et Adonis in Nancy, Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) in Saint-Etienne ... In October 2006, he sang in Les Troyens (Hylas and Hélénus) at the Opéra National du Rhin.

Sébastien Droy gives frequent oratorio performances, such as Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) by J.S. Bach and Manfred by Robert Schumann with the Orchestre National de France conducted by Kurt Masur, the Mass in E flat by F. Schubert) with the Orchestre National de Lille conducted by Leopold Hager, the Mass in C minor by W.A. Mozart at the Festival de Saint-Denis under the baton of John Nelson. His interest in Lieder and Mélodie has led him to sing at the Festival of Chamber Music in Naples and in vocal / guitar duo at the Archives Nationales de Paris.

Performances in 2007 included: Colombe by Damase in Marseille (January 2007), Fenton (Falstaff) in Tours (March 2007), Belmonte (The Abduction from the Seraglio) in Saint-Etienne (April 2007), Almaviva (Il Barbiere di Seviglia) in Rennes (May 2007) and Nancy, Idamante (Idomeneo) and Jaquino (Fidelio) at the Opéra National du Rhin, etc.

Sébastien Droy can be heard on Opera Rara’s recording of Ambroise Thomas’s La Cour de Célimène.
