Elizabeth Drury (Soprano)

Born: Topsham, Devon, England

The English soprano, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Drury, studied at St Margaret's School, Exeter, Devon (Class of 2003), and graduated from the Royal College of Music in London in June 2007 with a first class honours degree, studying Saxophone and Voice, and supported by a Jane Melber award. At the start of 2014 she was a semi-finalist at the London Handel Competition.

Since September 2008, Elizabeth Drury is based in London and works as a freelance suinger specialising in Baroque and 21st century repertoire. She sings with many UK choirs including Ex Cathedra, Tenebrae, BBC Singers, Eric Whitacre Singers, London Voices and Academy of Ancient Music Choir. She has recorded with Tenebrae, Polyphony, the Academy of Ancient Music and the Ex Cathedra Consort. She often records at Abbey Road studios with London Voices, and sang at the chapel of St Peter ad Vincula in the Tower of London, with whom she has toured to South Africa and Rome.

In August 2012, Elizabeth Drury was the Coloratura Soprano soloist in Stockhausen’s opera Mittwoch aus Licht with Birmingham Opera Company. She reprised this role at the BBC Proms in July 2013. She has toured to America with Tenebrae and the Eric Whitacre Singers, and parts of Europe with the Academy of Ancient Music, Tenebrae and Ex Cathedra Consort, and China with London Voices. She will be performing as a soloist with Ex Cathedra in George Frideric Handel's Messiah in Symphony Hall in December, and in J.S. Bach's St Matthew Passion () in May next year. She has also recently been part of Ex Cathedra's "Brazilian Baroque" recording, both as a soloist and in the choir. Her opera roles have included Gilda from Verdi's Rigoletto with Bacchanale, and Belinda from Purcell's Dido and Aeneas at the Musique Cordiale festival, Nice.

Elizabeth Drury was a Singing Teacher at St Margarets School Exeter (September 2007-July 2008). She works as a vocal tutor for Ex Cathedra’s education programme, working at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and primary schools in Birmingham and London. Since November 2014, she also teaches singing at the Dragon School in Oxford.
