Hans Fleischer (Tenor)

Born: November 8, 1890 - Falkenstein (Oberpfalz), Bavaria, Germany
Died: April 28, 1969 - Leipzig, Saxony, Germany

The German tenor, Hans (or Hanns) Fleischer, was a brother of the well-known soprano Edytha Fleischer (b. 1895).

After his training Hans Fleischer sang at various theatres in the German province and developed to an outstanding representative of the Buffo role. As his gloss roles stood in the first place Mime in Ring der Nibelungen, David in Meistersingern, Pedrillo in Entführung aus dem Serail and Monostatos in Zauberflöte. From 1924 to 1945 he was engaged at the Opera House of Leipzig, where he was very popular. Here he participated also in December 1928 in the premiere of the opera Die schwarze Orchidee by Eugen d'Albert, and in March 1930 in the premiere of Kurt Weill's Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny (in the role of Willy). In the years 1933-1936 he had great successes with regular appearances at the Covent Garden in London. The critics called him the best Mime, which could be heard with living memory in the English metropolis. He had successful appearances and concerts in the big German music centres and at the Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires.

Hans Fleischer's voice is present on records, nearly all however only with light songs and operetta titles; on Pearl he sings in Fliegenden Holländers in a production from 1936.

Note:
There is German composer with the same name Hans Fleischer (1896-1981)
