Alexandra Gibson (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: England

The English mezzo-soprano, Alexandra Gibson, studied at the Royal College of Music.

Alexandra Gibson is in great demand throughout europe and enjoys a busy career combining concerts, opera, broadcasts and recordings. She is particularly renowned for her interpretation of Baroque music. She has collaborated with many well known international orchestras and conductors including Harry Christophers and Symphony of Harmony and Invention, Laurence Cummings and London Handel Players, Emmanuelle Haïm and Le Concert d'Astrée, Roger Norrington and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Christian Curnyn and Early Opera Company, Paul McCreesh and Gabrieli Consort, Norsk Barokkorkester (Norwegian Chamber Orchestra), Trevor Pinnock and English Concert, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Berliner Philharmoniker, Bardi Orchestra, Academy of Ancient Music and London Mozart Players.

Alexandra Gibson has sung J.S. Bachís B minor Mass (BWV 232) at Pamplona/Cuenca (Spain); the title role in Dido and Aeneas; Mozart and Felix Mendelssohnís Lobgesang with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Barbican (London); Gustav Mahlerís 2nd Symphony; Diana in Carissimiís La Calisto ( London); Polinesso in G.F. Handelís Ariodante (Early Opera Company); Cephise in Rameauís Pygmalion.

Recent appearances have included: George Frideric Handelís Joshua for The London Handel Festival, Mozartís Requiem - Concertgebouw (Amsterdam) with Harry Christophers and the Radio Kamer Filharmonie, J.S. Bachís St Matthew Passion (BWV 244), Bridgewater Hall, Mozartís Requiem at the Auditorio Nacional de Música (Madrid), G.F. Handelís Theodora (Irene), Barber Institute. Peter Maxwell Daviesí Missa Super líhomme arme, BBC Radio 3.

Alexandra Gibson also enjoys her work with contemporary composers and was recently involved in the staged Premier of Gavin Bryarís new commission, The Paper Nautilus (Theatre Cryptic/Paragon Ensemble) in Scotland and at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. She has also toured and been sole vocalist with the Birmingham Royal Ballet in their production of ĎStill life at the Penguin Caféí.
