Taemin Han (Conductor, Piano)

Born: Busan, South Korea

The Korean pianist and conductor, Taemin Han, obtained his Bachelor of Music and his Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance from Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea. He then moved to the USA, where he obtained his Master of Arts degree in Piano Performance from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan (2000; studied piano performance with Professor Dady Mehta); and his·Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting/Piano Pedagogy from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan (2000-2004; studied choral conducting with Dr. Charles Smith and Dr. David Rayl, and piano pedagogywith Professor. Deborah Moriarty and Dr. Midori Koga).

Taemin Han served various denominations of churches (Catholic, Episcopal and Presbyterian) in Michigan until coming to Waterloo, Iowa in December 2009. Since October 2011, he serves as Director of Music Ministries at First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo.

Taemin Han has directed numerous concerts for churches, performing many major sacred music including Ralph Vaughan Williams' O Clap Your Hands, W.A. Mozart's Regina Coeli, K. 276, J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 166, Wo gehest du hin?, J. Haydn's Missa brevis St. Joannis de Deo (Little Organ Mass), George Frideric Handel's Coronation Anthem No. 4, Let Thy Hand Be Strengthened. In Waterloo, he performed Christmas portion, Part I, and Hallelujah Chorus of G.F. Handel's Messiah with the Westminster Presbyterian Chancel Choir in 2010, and again with the combined choirs of First Congregational United Church of Christ and First Presbyterian Church in 2012.

As an active pianist, Taemin Han performed L.v. Beethoven’s Piano Concert No. 1 with the Eastern Michigan University Orchestra and J.S. Bach's Concerto for Two Keyboards, BWV 1060, along with his wife Miah, with the Eastern Michigan University Chamber Orchestra. Taemin and Miah enjoy performing together piano and organ duet pieces for church services and concerts.

Taemin Han is a dedicated church musician who advocates education in music through fine singing and emphasizes understanding of the history and culture of all music. He currently lives in Waterloo, Iowa.
