The English mezzo-sopranno, Anna Harvey, studied at Tapton School Sheffield (Class of 2005) and graduated in Music of from Jesus College, Cambridge (Class of 2009). She recently completed the Opera Course at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM), graduating with the Alumni Development Award for a singularly distinguished musician, one of only five Outstanding Studentships. At RAM Anna studied under Elizabeth Ritchie and Iain Ledingham, was a RAM/Kohn Foundation Bach Scholar and a member of Academy Song Circle, and performed roles including Ariodante (London Handel Festival), Flosshilde in Das Rheingold and Popova in The Bear. Prizes include a Leonard Ingrams Foundation Award 2014 from Garsington Opera, the English and Russian Song Prizes at RAM and the Fordyce and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa Scholarships.
Anna Harvey's recent and upcoming professional opera roles include Cherubino in W.A. Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro (Welsh National Opera cover/West Green House Opera), Hänsel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel (West Green House Opera), Lapák the Dog in The Cunning Little Vixen (Garsington Opera), La Grosse Dame in Les mamelles de Tirésias (Dutch National Opera), cover Serafin in Figaro Gets a Divorce (Welsh National Opera), Jean in The Choker (Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival 2014), and Astron in The Ice Break (Birmingham Opera Company and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra).
Highlights on the concert platform include J.S. Bach's Ascension Oratorio (BWV 11) under Masaaki Suzuki at Lincoln Centre, New York, W.A. Mozart's Requiem under Paul McCreesh with the Gabrieli Consort in Switzerland and France and George Frideric Handel's Israel in Egypt under Jane Glover with Huddersfield Choral Society. Anna has also performed with the Hallé Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, London Mozart Players, English Chamber Orchestra and The Bach Choir, and at venues including The Bridgewater Hall, Cadogan Hall, Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall. A keen recitalist, Anna has performed solo recitals at venues including the Wigmore Hall, the Holywell Music Room, Kettle's Yard, St George's, Hannover Square, the Garrick Club and Southwark Cathedral. She currently lives in London, England.
Recordings include G.F. Handel's Messiah for BBC Radio 2, rare Schubert songs on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune, Ascendit (a CD of music for Passiontide with the Whitehall Choir) and Messiah for Abbey Road Live Here Now.
