Fumiko Hatayama (Contralto)

Born: Japan

The Japanese contralto, Fumiko Hatayama, had her first singing lessons in Tokyo. She continued her studies with Mitsuko Shirai and Hartmut Höll at the Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe. In 1996 she passed her concert exam with distinction in the field of Lieder singing. She attended master-classes with Anna Reynolds and Julia Hamari, and deepened her singing training with Hans-Joachim Beyer and Renate Biskup. She is a laureate of the 11th International Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau.

In addition to engagement at the Stuttgart Opera, Fumiko Hatayama is active in the field of new music: collaboration with the Ensemble Modern Frankfurt and various radio orchestras, invitation to the Biennale in Venice, the Warsaw Autumn and the Berlin Festival. She is a member of the AuditivVokal Dresden since December 2008.
