Mihoko Hoshikawa (Soprano)

Born: Aichi Prefecture, Japan

The Japanese soprano, Mihoko Hoshikawa (Japanese: 星川美保子), graduated in singing from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music of Music, and continued her training at the School of Opera Department. She also completed the Nikikai Opera Training Institute Master Class Stage 46. In 2003, she moved to Leipzig in Germany, where she studied under Christina Wartenberg.

Mihoko Hoshikawa came suddenly to the limelight when she performed the role of Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at Tokyo Nikikai Opera Theatre after returning home, and the role of Cleopatra in George Frideric Handel's Julius Caesar . She has gained praise for her solid singing technique, exceptional power of expression, and fascinating stage appearance She has also appeared as a soloist with a number of orchestras and conductors in oratorios, where her high voice quality of transparency is highly valued, including J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244), St John Passion (BWV 245), B minor Mass (BWV 232), Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) and Magnificat (BWV 243), W.A. Mozart's Motet and Requiem, Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria,. She is also actively involved in the field of contemporary music, and in 2008 she sang G. Kurutaku's Kafka Fragments for soprano and violin Op. 24.

In 2001-2002 Mihoko Hoshikawa was a member of Bach Collegium Japan directed by Masaaki Suzuki. She is a member of Tokyo Nikikai Opera Theatre.
