Matthias Jahrmärker (Baritone)

Born: Malchin, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany

The Geerman baritone, Matthias Jahrmärker, received early piano and singing lessons. From 1988 to 1992 he attended the Spezialschule für Musik "G. F. Händel". From 1993 to 2001 he studied singing (with a 15-month interruption by civil service) with Professor Kammersänger Wolfgang Hellmich at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin. He attended a master class with the Hilliard Ensemble.

Matthias Jahrmärker has already ben hera as a soloist in numerous opera productions and concerts at home and abroad, as for example in Midsummer Night's Dream by Benjamin Britten, Zweimal Alexander by Bohuslav Martinu, Die Fee Urgéle by J.A.P. Schulz (Schlosstheater Rheinsberg), Broken Strings by Param Vir (Staatsoper unter den Linden), Acis und Galathea by George Frideric Handel, Das Wachsfigurenkabinett by K.A. Hartmann, The Maid of Orleans by P.I. Tschaikowsky (Philharmonie Berlin), Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell, Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi (Bad Hersfelder Festspiele 2002), Hänsel und Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck, Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda by Claudio Monteverdi, Orpheus by Reinhard Keiser (Biennale für Alte Musik 2004, Konzerthaus Berlin), Arsinoe by Reinhard Keiser (Haus der Berliner Festspiele), Porgy & Bess by George Gershwin, The Messiah by G.F. Handel (including at Franz. Dom Berlin), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) by J.S. Bach (including at St. Ignazio, Rome), Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244,) by J.S. Bach (including at Philharmonie Berlin), Requiem by W.A. Mozart (including at Philharmonie Berlin), Ein Deutsches Requiem by Johannes Brahms, Belshazzar’s Feast by William Walton (Philharmonie Berlin).

Matthias Jahrmärker has co-operated oferten with Freiburger Barockorchester and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. He has sung under the conductors Marcus Creed, Andrew Manze, Philippe Herreweghe, Gary Cooper and others. Stage/concert partners have been Annette Dasch, Johannette Zomer, James Gilchrist or Christoph Prégardien.

His love of various musical forms, not least of ensemble singing, so Matthias Jahrmärker is one of the founding members of the Vocalconsort Berlin. Both as a singer, but also as a director of various ensembles he was able to contribute and develop his musical knowledge and talent. He has taught for several years as a lecturer at the Berliner Schule für Schauspiel. CD / DVD productions, and radio and TV recordings document his musical work. Since 2013 he lives in Moved to Pankow, Berlin, Germany.
