Wilhelm Kaiser (Tenor)

Born: June 4, 1916 - Bautzen (?), Saxony, Germany
Died: May 25, 1995

The German tenor, Wilhelm Kaiser, needed to give up a profitable photography shop in Bautzen (Germany) when the war reached the city. He found a new home in Hannover - and also a new job. A female organist recognised Kaisers' pleasant voice. She called the attention of several art connoisseurs to him, and Paul Gümmer trained his voice. To all the friends and before all to his wife, who bravely shared the deprivations of this time with him, Wilhelm Kaiser was deeply thankful.

In the early 1950’s, Wilhelm Kaiser belonged to the first-class oratorio and Lieder singers. He sang in all cities of music in Germany, Sweden, Holland and Switzerland. The most beautiful experience in his career was the opportunity to sing the Evangelist in J.S. Bach’s Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) during the Year of Bach in 1950 at the Cologne Cathedral.
