Gunhild Lang-Alsvik (Soprano)

Born: Trondheim, Norway

The Norwegian soprano, Gunhild Lang-Alsvik, began her musical education in her native city of Trondheim, Norway. After graduation she left for Oslo to study at the National Academy of Music there, with Professors Barbro Marklund-Petersone and Håkan Hagegård. She received her bachelor of voice performance in May 2005. After finishing her studies in Oslo she decided to go to the world renowned academy of early music, the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, in Basel, Switzerland, to study with Evelyn Tubb.

Although her vocal main field lies in the Baroque and classisistic music, Gunhild Lang-Alsvik is also often to be heard singing romantic as well as occasionally contemporary repertoire.

Gunhild Lang-Alsvik is already I great demand as a soloist and gives concerts throughout Europe. In the past few years she performed in venues like the Zürcher Tonhalle, the Herkules-Saal in Vienna and the Viennese Concert Hall, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, Germany, and in the festival of Fränkischen Sommer as well as in the Jeunesse-Reihe in Austria.

"Being a sopran in the comic sense, she can entertain with her wit and humour, even when necessary ‘a bit of rough’ as she plies her art at characterization. But to be too swayed by ‘bawdy’ or ‘minstrel jesting’ would be to belie her profound skills to move and elevate with her plangent tones, soaring sweetness, artless bravura, and deep sincerity. In the best voices one hears not only ‘beauty of voice’, but also sharp intelligence, and perhaps most important of all, depth, compassion and humanity." - Anthony Rooley
