Mercedes Lario (Soprano)

Born: Madrid, Spain

The Spanish soprano, Mercedes Lario, studied studied piano, viola da gamba and singing at the Conservatorio de Madrid. She moved to Amsterdam to continue his musical studies at the Sweelinck Conservatorium where she studied in the class of Kevin Smith. There she also worked with Udo Reinemann, Rudolf Jansen, Margreet Honig or Charles Hamilton.

Mercedes Lario is otable for her his performances in such works as Jephte by Carissimi, Vespro Della Beata Virgine by C. Monteverdi, The Fairy Queen by H. Purcell, Acis and Galatea by George Frideric Handel, Israel in Egypt by G.F. Handel, The Resurrection of Lazarus by Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach, Messiah by G.F. Handel, Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi, Don Quichotte chez la Duchesse by J.B. Boismortier, Ballet Royale de l'Impatience by J.B. Lully, Gardeners de Aranjuez by Pablo Esteve, Nelson Mass by F.J. Haydn', Missa in Tempore Belli by Haydn, Requiem by W.A. Mozart, Requiem by Gabriel Fauré, A Midsummer Night's Dream by Felix Mendelssohn, A Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten, Il Segreto di Susanna by Wolf Ferrari. She has premiered in Spain Cantata by G.C. Menotti Muero porque no Muero" in the unique setting of Mezquita de Córdoba. She has played the role of stepsister in the opera Cendrillon by Pauline Viardot.

Mercedes Lario has sung at many festivals and music cycles throughout the Spanish geography and abroad in festivals like Abu-Gosh in Israel, Lacoste in Provence in France, Aranjuez Music Festival, etc. She has also performed in venues such as the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam, Musikcentrum Vredenburg Utrecht, etc., under the batons of maestros such as Ton Koopman, Grover Wilkins, José Ramón Encinar, Frans Brüggen, Salvador Mas, etc. She has been invited by the Orchestra of New Spain to give several concerts in Dallas (USA) with great success of critics and audiences. In the Lieder repertoire she has performed numerous concerts with pianist Marien van Nieukerken in different European countries. She has recently sung a monograph concert about Anton Garcia Abril at the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid. She is a permanent part of the Vocal Quartet Cavatina since its formation.
