The French mezzo-soprano, Stéphanie Leclercq, began her musical education in Lille, continuing her studies at the city’s University and Conservatoire.
She subsequently joined Jean-Claude Malgoire's Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing. Under his leadership she made her debut at La Scala, Milan, in Antonio Vivaldi's Vespers (1994) and at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in W.A. Mozart's Da Ponte operas (1996). She came to the attention of Gabriel Garrido, who gave her a role in Cavalli's Ercole amante at the 2005 Ambronay Festival. Away from the opera house she has sung in Maurice Duruflé's Requiem and J.S. Bach's cantatas and St Matthew Passion (BWV 244).
Though Stéphanie Leclercq is particularly associated with early music, she has also sung the title-role in Offenbach's La Grande Duchesse de Gérolstein and Carmen in La tragédie de Carmen, an adaptation of Georges Bizet’s opera by Marius Constant and Peter Brook. In 2010, she joined Les Arts Florissants for the current cycle of Monteverdi madrigals conducted by Paul Agnew, and Jiri Kylian’s ballet Doux Mensonges at the Opéra Garnier. This year (2015) she performs with Les Filles du Rhin under Raphaël Pichon, Le Concert de la Nuit Royale under Sébastien Daucé and Madin's Te Deum with Stradivaria. |
