Cornelius Leenen (Baritone, Choral Conductor)

Born: Germany

The German baritone, choral conductor and teacher, Cornelius Leenen, studied music educatiom and singing at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg, first with Oliver Haux, from 2009 to 2013 with with Professor Dr. Bernd Göpfert. Since 2013 he studied choral conducting Professor Morten Schuldt-Jensen. As a scientific subject, he studied mathematics at the Universität Freiburg.

Cornelius Leenen is active as vocal soloist, singing teacher and choral conductor. Since September 2017, he has worked as a teacher of music and mathematics at the Städtischen Gymnasium in Ettenheim. Since October 2018, he has been teaching choral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg. In addition to his work at school, he is choir director of two choirs. Since December 2017, he is the director of Heinrich-Schütz-Kantorei Freiburg. He also founded the William-Byrd-Ensemble Freiburg, a vocal ensemble specializing in Renaissance and Baroque music.

Important focal points of his activity as a singer are Lieder and ensemble singing. So he has performed with several vocal ensembles, including Chapelle de la Vigne (Director: Bernhard Schmidt), Immortal-Bach-Ensemble (Director: Morten Schuldt-Jensen), Dufay Ensemble Freiburg, Vocalensemble Rastatt (Director: Holger Speck) and Ensemble Exosphere. As a concert singer, he is mainly active in the area of ​​Freiburg and Switzerland and sings oratorio works by J.S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, W.A. Mozart, and others. He is currently being supported by Stefan Haselhoff (Basel).
