Matthias Ludwig (Baritone)

Born: Germany

The German baritone, Matthias Ludwig, received his singing training at the Richard-Strauss-Konservatorium and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. He received several scholarships and in 2004 was prize-winner of the competition for Förderpreis des Kulturkreises Gasteig in Munich.

Matthias Ludwig's roles include W.A. Mozart's Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) and Count Almaviva (The Marriage of Figaro), Peter in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel, Escamillo in Georges Bizet's Carmen, or Dr. Malatesta in Donizetti's Don Pasquale. In summer 2004 he sang Orfeo in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice in the ancient Theater of Argos and Oiniades in programme in the Olympic Games in Greece. A wide international activity in concert and Lieder fields in Europe, Canada, the USA and Israel completes his range.

Since the beginning of the 2006-2007 season Matthias Ludwig is engaged at the Stadttheater Giessen, where he has already been heard in roles as Colas (Bastien und Bastienne), Dandini (La Cenerentola), Lawrence (Strandräuber), Bill Sykes (Oliver!) and Albert (Werther). Moreover, he performed with great success the title role in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, and the role of Eginhard in Georg Philipp Telemann's Emma und Eginhard. This season (2008-2009) he will take part as D'Artagnan in Benatzky's revue-operetta Die Drei Musketiere, and as Rodomonte in Haydn's Orlando Paladino.
