The Russian bass, Vyacheslav Lukhanin, graduated from the vocals faculty of the Bishkek State Conservatoire in 1985. He was Prize-winner at the International Chaliapin Opera Singers' Competition (2nd prize, 1989), and • Diploma-recipient at the All-Union Glinka Vocalists' Competitions (1987-1989).
From 1985 to 1986, Vyacheslav Lukhanin was a soloist with the Novosibirsk Theatre of Opera and Ballet; from 1986 to 1991, a soloist with the Frunze Maldybaev Theatre of Opera and Ballet; from 1991 to 1994, a soloist with the Leningrad Academic Musorgsky Maly Theatre of Opera and Ballet. He has been a Mariinsky Theatre soloist since 1994, making his debut as the Grand as Inquisitor in Don Carlo.
