Catherine McCord Larsen (Soprano)

Born: California, USA

The American soprano, Catherine McCord Larsen, obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the University of California-Santa Barbara (19076-1979), and her Master of Fine Arts degree in Music from California Institute of the Arts (1979-1981).

Catherine McCord Larsen is an active soloist in oratorio and chamber music performances throughout the USA. Recent appearances include a French program with Minnesota Opera’s principal flutist, Michele Frisch, in connection with the Schubert Club “Courtroom Concert” series at the Landmark Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, and as soprano soloist in J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) with the Peoria Bach Festival in Illinois.

Catherine McCord Larsen performed the soprano solos in the Lyra Baroque Orchestra’s most recent performances of George Frideric Handel’s Messiah, conducted by Jacques Ogg in Minneapolis, MN and was featured soloist in Arvo Pärt's Magnificat with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Hugh Wolff. While performing in her native state of California, she appeared in several Baroque Opera performances with the Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra, conducted by Gregory Maldenado and as part of the I Nacamichi Early Music Series, conducted by Nicholas McGegan. Her summer musical activities have encompassed performances with the Carmel Bach Festival and Oregon Bach Festival conducted by Bruno Weil and Helmuth Rilling. She has also been featured in several chamber music recitals as a member of the voice faculty with Lutheran Summer Music at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and Gustavus Aldolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota.

In addition to her solo work, Catherine McCord Larsen's professional choral affiliations have included memberships in the Dale Warland Singers, Los Angeles Master Chorale and I Cantori, with whom she was a featured soloist in this ensemble's A Choir of Angels recording of Early Music of the Americas.

This versatile singer has many years of experience as a member of SAG/AFTRA and can be heard on numerous film and commercial sound tracks including Empire of the Sun, Hook, Grand Canyon and Star Trek Generations.

Catherine McCord Larsen is a member of the voice faculty at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul, where she has taught since 1996 and is an active participant with the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
