Kevin McLean-Mair (Tenor)

Born: St Albans, England

The English tenor, Kevin McLean-Mair, studied at St Giles School (RSA uccles). He studied music at the Royal Academy of Music, University of London, obtaining Professional Certificate of Music in singing and at the Britten-Pears School in Aldeburgh (Lieder and Chanson). He has taken part in master-classes with Tom Krause and furthered his studies with Valerie Masterson CBE and Geoffrey Mitchell.

Kevin McLean-Mair's concert engagemens have taken him throughout the UK in major concert halls and cathedrals and he has sunbg with the Bournmouth Sinfonietta, Manchester Camerata, Nothern Chamber Orchestra and Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Abroad he has sung in Canada, the USA, and the Netherlands. In Opera he has performed with the English Bach Festival, Garsington Festival Opera and the Royal Opera. HAe has also toured asnd recorded with the Amsterdam Baroque Choir (Director: Ton Koopman) and Les Musiciens du Louvre (Director: Marc Minkowski).

Kevin McLean-Mair recently (as of 2001) sung the Role of Zephyrus in J.S. Bach's Cantata Der zufriedengestellte Aeolus (BWV 205) for Musica nel Chiostro, Bastignano and solo roles in The Fairy Queen for the English Bach Festival at the Linbury Studio, Covent Garden. Recent concert engagements (as of 2001) included J.S. Bach's St John Passion (BWV 245) with Sallands Bach Choir and George Frideric Handel's Messiah with Magdeburg Cathedral Choir. In the UK, he sang J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232) for the Tonbridge Philharmonic Society, St John Passion (BWV 245) at St John's Smith Square and in Chester Cathedral, Messiah with Manchester Camerata, and The Creation for Durham and Radlett Choral Societies. Concert engagements in 2001 included a returnd to the Netherlands and J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232) with the Tonbridge Philharmonic Society and other works in Durham Cathedral and and Herefor Cathedral. Later engagemnts included Messiah in Lincoln Cathedral and St John Passion (BWV 245) with Edmundsbury Bach Choir in 2002.

Kevin McLean-Mair's recording of Dixit Dominus with Les Musiciens du Louvre (selected by Gramophone Magazine February 2000 Record of the Month) and of the Songs of Ian Venables were released by DGG and Enigma labels respectively.

Kevin McLean-Mair has worked as singing teacher for many years: Director of Richmond Girls' Choir at Richmond County Music School (September 1993-August 1994); Voice Teacher to Lincoln Cathedral Choristers and Lay Clerks at Lincoln Theological College (September 1986-August 1996); Senior Lay Vicar at Lincoln Cathedral (September 1986-August 1996); Teacher of Singing at Woodhall Spa School (September 1988-August 1996); Form Teacher at Gatehouse School in London (September 1995-August 1996); Teacher of Singing at Bedfordshire County Music Servic (September 1996-August 1999); Teacher of Singing at Luton Borough Council Music Service (September 1996-August 2003); Teacher of Singing at Manshead School in Luton (September 1999-August 2006); Teacher of Singing and Religious Education at Gatehouse School in London (September 2002-August 2006); Teacher of Singing at Haresfoot School in Berkhamsted (September 2006-August 2008); Teacher of Singing at Berkhamsted Collegiate School (September 2006-August 2010); Teacher of Singing Ladymede School in Little Kimble (September 2008-August 2011); Teacher of Singing at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts (September 2003-Present).
