Monika Meier-Schmid (Soprano)

Born: Stuttgart, Germany

The German soprano, Monika Meier-Schmid studied first transverse flute in Stuttgart, afterwards singing at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg and the Musikhochschule in Karlsruhe. She was prize-winner in the Hans-Pfitzner-Liedwettbewerb Hamburg.

Monika Meier-Schmid has had extensive concert activity all over Europe, the USA, Korea, Israel, Japan and the former USSR. She has co-operated with numerous festivals, among them the Salzburg Festival, Europäisches Musikfest, Kasseler Musiktage, Weltmusiktage Essen, Internationale Festspiele Baden-Württemberg, Tage Alter Musik Stuttgart, Tage für Neue Musik Zürich und Stuttgart. She has taken part in opera productions and Lieder recitals, numerous broadcast and CD productions, and participated in premieres.

Since 1996 Monika Meier-Schmid is Professor for singing in Magdeburg.
