Messiaskantorei Hannover (Choir)

Founded: Hannover, Germany

The Messiaskantorei Hannover is one of the big religious and regional choirs of the German capital, which has performed almost all the major oratorio works under its conductors Jörg Straube (1974-1992), Rainer Lautenbach (1992-2001) and since 2001 Guido Mürmann.

Although only a few singers of the choir are native church members, they have four to six per year to worship the Messiaskirche (including Bach cantatas in a smaller cast). In addition to the choral works with orchestra, the choir performs works from the a-cappella literature. The vocal development of each individual and thus the choir is very important. A separate singing instruction is taken during each rehearsal as required.

The newly founded MessiasKammerChor projects works and rehearses by arrangement. The functioning of this young choir is based on that experienced choral singers come to the tones after a single reading from the sheet. Thus, in subsequent rehearsals (partly Saturdays or Sundays) they can work directly on the interpretation and phonetic outcome processes.

A special feature of the choir's projects are supporting the school's pedagogical approaches. The conductor is associated with various orchestra musicians in Hannover High Schools. They are preparing students in the subjects assault music / history / religion on the central concerns of the events in the classroom before they have an opportunity to attend the rehearsals and the concert. The aim of this process is to make the concert tradition of this genre in the discourse of the younger generation so that space and time for their questions, comments, suggestions and opinions will take place.

The year 2008 was eventful: The Baroque program "MISSA ... " with Mass compositions by J.S. Bach and Antonio Lotti (including Hannover premiere of the Credo), concerts and rehearsal tour in Piedmont / Italy and the series "Autumn Days of Jewish Music" in Hannover with Igor Stravinsky's Psalm Symphony and Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms.
