Markus Müller (Tenor)

Born: 1953 - Saulgau, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Died: April 28, 2013

The German tenor, Markus Müller, began first to study civil engineering at the Technical University in Stuttgart, however during this time he was already member of the well-known Gächinger Kantorei under Helmuth Rilling. After deciding on a singer career, he studied at the Stuttgart’s Musikhochschule with Bruce Abel.

Markus Müller gained his first theatrical experiences in the Opernstudio of the Staatsoper Stuttgart. In 1987 he was engaged at the Opera House of Dortmund, to which he belonged in the following seasons until 1991. In 1991 he followed a call to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf-Duisburg, at which he performed as Belmonte in Entführung aus dem Serail, as Tamino in Zauberflöte, as Arscace in Mozart’s Idomeneo, as Fenton in Lustigen Weibern von Windsor by Nicolai and as Astrologe in Der goldene Hahn by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. In November 1995 he participated in the premiere of the opera Gervaise Macquart by Giselher Klebe (as Lantier). Since 1991 he had a guest engagement at the Staatsoper Dresden. He attracted attention there as Belmonte and as Count Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. He had a successful career also as a concert soloist.
