Niagara Brass Ensemble (Brass Ensemble)

Founded: Canada

The Niagara Brass Ensemble (= NBE) is dedicated to excellence in brass chamber music performance. Composed of remarkable musicians and led by international soloist and CBC recitalist James Tinsley, the Niagara Brass Ensemble has a commitment to performing music by Canadian composers and to promoting music education in Canada. The ensemble has performed live on CBC Stereo’s Music Around Us series and at CBC Halifax, in addition to an appearance on CITY TV’s “Breakfast Television.” The Niagara Brass was featured at the Scotia Festival of Music in 1993.

The members of the Niagara Brass Ensemble have recently been appointed Artists in Residence at Brock University and the Art Gallery in Hamilton. In 1994, the NBE received an official designation from the city of Niagara Falls as musical ambassadors of the region.

James Tinsley, trumpet, is a faculty member of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. He has played in the Niagara Symphony as well as orchestras and ensembles across Canada and the USA. James Tinsley is an international soloist and CBC recitalist.

Larry Taylor, trumpet, is a graduate of North Texas State University, and has performed in the orchestras of the Dallas Opera and Dallas Repertory Theatre. He has also played in the Glen Miller Big Band, and with Chet Atkins, Jerry Lewis and Bob Hope.

David Archer is Principal Trombone of the National Ballet Orchestra and the Hannaford Street Silver Band, and is a former member of the Niagara Symphony. He is on the faculty of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.

David Van Dover, bass trombonist in the Niagara Symphony, has played in orchestras and ensembles in the USA and Ontario. He is on the faculty of Brock University and holds a doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Michigan.

Brent Adams, Principal Tuba of the Niagara Symphony, is on the teaching staff for the Niagara Youth Orchestra, and has performed with the Hamilton Philharmonic and the Ontario Place Pops.
