Niederrheinische Kantorei (Choir)

Founded: 1977 - Niederrhein, Germany

Niederrheinische Kantorei (= NRK) consists of members, that come from the different municipalities and churches of the Evangelist and range. Over their work in the church and municipality choirs outside the singers and singer in this choir together-found themselves, in order to specify sacred music making. By the term ‘Werkgerechtigkeit’ they try to understand not only the technical and musical aspect - but naturally borders are set to a layman choir - separate an interpretation, which comes the entire intention of the composer if possible close. The imbedding of the composition is exactly the same considered into respective developing history, like the specific word statement: It nevertheless always concerns to the message of God and Jesus Christ in the sacred music.

NRK were founded in 1977 by choir director, Werner Seuken. The suggestion in addition gave the composer and earlier federalising-waits the Christian singer federation Paul Ernst Ruppel. Only two years later the concentrated choir successfully with 100 the year old CS anniversary in the Stifts-Kirche in Stuttgart before more than thousand listeners.

The members are resident in all parts of the Niederrhein and the Ruhr district. Every three weeks in Mülheim at the Ruhr one rehearses. Beside these regular meetings - specified on a long-term basis – they meet in irregular distances to week final conferences and to compact seminars. The style direction is not restricted. In the opposite it is made certain that choir works of old masters and the romance come likewise to the lecture like modern compositions. The emphasis is on a capella to singing, yet in larger distances also oratorios and cantatas are specified: in 1983 some Bach Kantaten, in 1985 the Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), in 1987 the Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) by J.S. Bach, in 1992 the Messiah by George Frideric Handel (in German language) in Mülheim and on a concert tour into the Eastern Germany.

In 1993 NRK submitted a studio production. On these CD - from cause the 80. Birthday of the composer Paul Ernst Ruppel developed - different titles of Swing are over canon held to the songs and cantatas up to modern motet compositions. Second CD is a live recording from Christmas concert in December 1996. The newest admission shows the German Requiem of J. Brahms, which was specified in co-operation with the choir of the Kreuzkirche in Chemnitz in November 1998. On the occasion of the concert tour to Eastern Germany after the turn a long-term co-operation with the Collegium Instrumentale from Chemnitz became short.

At the moment the NRK co-operates intensively with Niederrheinischen Kammerorchester, which acquired itself an excellent call the far beyond regional borders. Concert tours led the choir to Berlin, several times to Stuttgart, to the North and into Eastern Germany. After 14 years of existence, a foreign tour has brought the choir together with the orchestra and the soloists in April 2000 for the first time to West of Canada, including Edmonton and Vancouver. There could be made music in three performances of the Messiah by G.F. Handel before altogether more than 3,000 listeners. In November 2001 NRK supports from a large symphony orchestra - specified the Paulus oratorio by Felix Mendelssohn consisting of the mortar chamber orchestra and brass soloists - being located to the presentation of the choir, the orchestra and the soloists in the holy spirit church completely sold out in Mülheim getting living was applauded. The newest project is the performance of the Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) by J. S. Bach in December 2002 in the Holy Spirit church in Mülheim Holthausen.
