The chamber choir PA'dam is a contemporary ensemble consisting of versatile, ambitious and independent professionals, under the energetic leadership of conductor Maria van Nieukerken. PA'dam distinguishes itself by its entrepreneurial attitude, eclectic programming and original approach. A good example of this is the theatrical production based on the vocal version of J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations (BWV 988).
PA'dam’s activities are characterized by their great variety, ranging from music by the old masters to world premieres, from madrigals to rock music, and from monumental choral works to swinging Christmas programmes. In this context PA'dam produced the penetrating series of concerts of J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) by Heart and appeared with author Anna Enquist in the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam in the programme Hoor Mij (Listen to Me).
In 2014 PA'dam sang a new work by composer Wim Henderickx for the Nederlandse Opera. In 2015 it premiered De Buitenste Duisternis, an opera by Wim de Ruiter. In 2017 it appeared at the invitation of the Matangi Quartet as a guest in the Unheard Music Festival in The Hague, where it gave premieres of works by composer Valentin Silvestrov.
PA'dam has worked together with among others the Metropole Orchestra, Holland Opera, Residentie Orkest Den Haag and the Utrecht Early Music Festival, and performed on radio and TV for various broadcasting companies.
Since 2005 PA'dam has appeared with the Nicolaas Consort five times a year in the concert series ‘Bach in Monnickendam’ in which a J.S. Bach's cantata is programmed for each concert. But PA'dam does not confine itself to the well-trodden paths of classical music! It performed with the world-famous band ‘Within Temptation’ in a sold-out Ahoy, in the Lowlands festival, in Theatre Carré in Amsterdam and in “Games in Concert” together with the Metropole Orchestra. In recent years PA'dam has provided choral backing for recordings by bands such as EPICA and Xandria. |
