Martyna Pastuszka (Violin)

Born: 1980 - Ruda Slaska, Upper Silesia, Poland

The Polish violinist, Martyna Pastuszka, was Raised in a musical family. She studied at Liceum Muzyczne w Katowicach and violin performance at Akademia Muzyczna w Katowicach (Academy of Music in Katowice), which she graduated from in 2004. In 2017, she defended her doctoral thesis and currently serves as lecturer at her alma mater.

Since 2012, Martyna Pastuszka has been the concert master and the artistic director of {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna, which she established together with a manager, Artur Malke. In this ensemble she has gathered a group of outstanding passionate virtuoso-musicians around her, which, together with her original music imagination and the skill to shape the group's work enabled {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna to develop, gain trust and receive the support of Polish music institutions and international festivals very quickly. The performances of the ensemble, as well as Martyna’s herself, have been hailed by critics as “the biggest discovery of recent years!!” (Adam Rozlach, Polish Radio).

As a concert master. Martyna Pastuszka is also invited to collaborate with other ensembles such as Le Parlement de Musique (Director: Martin Gester; 2009-2013), Capella Cracoviensis (since 2010) and Collegium Marianum (Prague). As a chamber musician she has collaborated with NeoBarock an orchestra from Cologne, the Parisian orchestra Le Cercle de l'Harmonie (since 2006) and, most of all, since 2001, with Arte dei Suonatori, one of Poland’s leading early music ensembles (2001-2016). Thanks to this Poznań-based powerhouse led by Ewa and Aureliusz Goliński and its numerous guests, she was able to learn the secrets of early music and shape her musical personality. Thi co-operation, as well as her studies at the Academy of Music in Katowice shaped Pastuszka's music taste and educated her as a violinist. She has encountered outstanding music personalities on her career path who are a continuous source of inspiration for her such as Rachel Podger, Giuliano Carmignola, Andrew Parrott, Julien Chauvin, Andreas Staier, Hidemi Suzuki, Barthold Kuijken, Dan Laurin and René Jacobs.
