Harjo Pasveer (Bass)

Born: The Netherlands

The Dutch bass and vocal coach, Harjo Pasveer, began his musical career as a Pop-/ Jazz-drummer. He extended his instrumental abilities in a Cabaret-Company. After that, he went to the Rotterdam School of Music and Dance, now known as CODARTS, to study music education. In the Laurenscantorij in Rotterdam he discovered vocal classical music. He decided to combine his music education study with studying at the Classical Singing Department.

After graduation Harjo Pasveer joined a Children's Theatre Company. After that he worked at a Music School as vocal coach and choir director. In 1991 he was asked to work as vocal coach at the Kurt Thomas Course for Directors. There he extended his capacity for working as a vocal coach with choirs. The Workshops for Choirs he developed became popular very quickly.

Since 1997 Harjo Pasveer is Main Subject Singing Technique Teacher at the Pop-, Jazz- and Musical Theatre Departments of the CODARTS University for the Arts in Rotterdam. He works in close contact with Phoniatricians and Voice Therapists. As a freelance vocal coach he has worked with famous professional singers. His coaching abilities, technically as well as artistically and mentally, have lead to appearances on Dutch Radio and TV, for instance at De Wereld draait door a Dutch prime-time programme.

Harjo Pasveer is a freelance member of the Amsterdam Baroque Choir directed by Ton Koopman. As a soloist he mostly sings oratorios.

Harjo Pasveer is much asked for as guest teacher. In that capacity he has worked at, for instance, the Fontys Rock-Academy in Tilburg and the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam.
