Sabine Puhlmann (Soprano)

Born: 1970 - Frankfurt am Main, Germany

The German soprano, Sabine Puhlmann, received violin lessons from age 5 onwards and began to take piano lessons at 15. Having passed her school-leaving examinations, she enrolled for a course in German studies and music teaching (main subject: violin) in Mainz. After passing her first state examinations in 1994 she began to study voice with Prof. H.-J. Beyer in Leipzig, graduating with a recital diploma in mid-1997. During her period of study she attended several master classes, notably by Professor Jakob Stämpfli (Bern) and Professor Edith Sélig-Papée (Paris).

While at school and college Sabine Puhlmann sang in numerous choral ensembles, including the Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart directed by Helmuth Rilling. From 1997 to 2002 she was a member of the Collegium Vocale Gent under Philippe Herreweghe and took part in many concert tours and CD projects of that ensemble. During that period she also began to work as a stand-in for the Rundfunkchor Berlin, first in a part-time capacity from November 1999 and then as a full-time member from early 2002.

In the summer of 2004 Sabine Puhlmann and four fellow members of the Rundfunkchor Berlin established the Amalien-Ensemble to practise ensemble music set for soloists. Over and above this, the soprano engages in wide-ranging solo work.
