Residentie Bachorkest (Orchestra)

Founded: 1962 - The Hague, Holland

The Residentie Bachorkest was founded by Gerard Akkerhuis in 1962 to accompany J.S. Bach's cantatas in the Nieuwe Kerk at the Spui in The Hague. Since 1967 the cantatas were performed at the Kloosterkerk at the Lange Voorhout. The activities of the orchestra gradually increased, resulting in a close cooperation with the Residentie Bachkoor and the Residentie Kamerkoor, and performances of many works for chorus and orchestra. The Residentie Bachorkest mainly plays Baroque, Classical and Romantic repertoire. The ensemble strives after an authentic approach though using 'modern' instruments.
