Brindley Sherratt (Bass)

Born: Lancashire, England

The English bass, Brindley Sherratt, studied trumpet and singing at the Royal Academy of Music, where he was awarded the Mario Grisi, Robert Radford and Gilbert Betjamin prizes for opera and recital singing.

Brindley Sherratt's operatic roles include his WNO début as Leporello Don Giovanni; Gremin Evgeny Onegin for Grange Park Opera; Colline La Bohème and Sprecher Die Zauberflöte for Wexford International Opera Festival; Salieri in David Owen Norris’ comic opera Die Zabaglione; roles elsewhere include Superintendent Budd Albert Herring, Gremin Evgeny Onegin, Seneca L’incoronazione di Poppea and Frank Maurrant Street Scene.

Brindley Sherratt's regular appearances on the concert platform include: W.A. Mozart's Requiem and C Minor Mass at the Swansea and York Festivals with Jane Glover and the London Mozart Players, George Frideric Handel's Judas Maccabeus and W.A. Mozart's Vespers at the opening of the Symphony Hall with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Igor Stravinsky's Les Noces in the BBC Proms Festival, J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) at the Royal Albert Hall with Kings College Choir, J.S. Bach's St John Passion (BWV 245) in Bonn and I. Stravinsky's Les Noces in Paris with Pierre Boulez and the Ensemble Intercontemporain, I. Stravinsky's Canticum Sacrum in Paris with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Luigi Dallapiccola's opera Il Prigioniero in Turin, G.F. Handel's Messiah and Texeira Te Deum with Harry Christophers in Hong Kong, J.S. Bach's St John Passion (BWV 245) with Trevor Pinnock in London and Lucerne. His many broadcasts for radio include W.A. Mozart's C Minor Mass, Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle, Panufnik Winter Solstice and I. Stravinsky's Canticum Sacrum.

Engagements in the last two seasons included: Plutone L’Anima del Filosofo, Immigration Officer Flight for de Vlaamse, Il Re Ariodante for the Reisopera, Commendatore Don Giovanni for Garsington, Haydn Masses on tour in Switzerland and recording for Philips with John Eliot Gardiner and the Monteverdi Choir, Messiah in USA with Robert King, St Matthew Passion (BWV 244) with Trevor Pinnock in Vienna, Salzburg, Paris and Japan, Wurm Luisa Miller in Lausanne, J.S. Bach's Cantatas with Sir John Eliot Gardiner, The Creation with Trevor Pinnock in the Lausanne Festival, Il Resurrezione in Oslo, the W.A. Mozart's Requiem in Brussels with Robert King, Claudio I Capuleti e I Montecchi for Grange.

Current season/future plans: J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245) with Trevor Pinnock in the Proms, Publio La Clemenza di Tito, Marquis di Calatrava La Forza del Destino, Ashby La Fanciulla del West, He-Ancient Midsummer Marriage at ROH, his GTO début as Superintendent Budd Albert Herring, Capellio I Capuleti e i Montecchi in concert for ENO at the Barbican and Sarastro The Magic Flute at the Coliseum, Melisso in G.F. Handel's Alcina for the Opéra de Montpellier, Basilio Il Barbiere di Siviglia for Garsington, Ferrando Il Trovatore and Gremin Evgeny Onegin for WNO, Commendatore Don Giovanni and Claudio Agrippina for Sante Fe Opera, Theseus A Midsummer Night’s Dream at La Monnaie, title role La Grotta di Trofonio in Lausanne, the Glagothic Mass with Mark Elder and the Hallé Orchestra.
