Dieter Slembeck (Baritone)

Born: May 24, 1935 - Kamp-Lintfort, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
Died: May 10, 1974 - Frankfurt/a.M., Hesse, Germany

The German baritone, Dieter Slembeck, was a pupil of the famous pedagogue Franziska Martienssen-Lohmann in Düsseldorf.

In 1962 Dieter Slembeck made his debut at the Stadttheater of Aachen, where he eas engaged until 1965. In 1965 he was appointed to the Opernhaus of Frankfurt/a.M., whose member he remained until his sudden death (he died of a cerebral hemorrhage). Next to his work on the stage, he was a highly regarded concert, oratorio and Lieder singer. At the Bayreuth Festival he sang in 1965-1967 Reinmar von Zweter in Tannhäuser, in 1964-1970 3rd Knappen in Parsifal, in 1967-1968 one of the nobles, in 1968 Heerrufer in Lohengrin and in 1968-1970 Konrad Nachtigall in Meistersinger. He appeared as a guest not only in German theaters, but also in France. Among his roles are the Count in Figaros Hochzeit, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, the Germont-père in La Traviata, Don Carlos, La forza del destino by Verdi, Wolfram in Tannhäuser, Sharpless in Madame Butterfly and the Kalif in the Barber of Bagdad by P.Cornelius.
