Christiane Sorell (Soprano)

Born: January 13, 1933 - Vienna, Austria
Died: May 30, 2015 - Vienna, Austria

The Austrian soprano, Christiane Sorell, studied first violin playing at the Vienna’s Musikakademie and became an accomplished player. She gave violin concerts Austria, Italy, France, Switzerland and North America. However, at the same time she dedicated herself to singing studies, which took place in Vienna with Ferdinand Grossmann.

In 1955 Christiane Sorell made her debut as lyric soprano at the Wiener Volksoper, at which she appeared for twenty years. She had then a very successful career at the State Operas of Vienna, Stuttgart and Munich and at the Opera House of Frankfurt a.M. Since 1964 she was connected by an appearance contract with the Deutschen Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf-Duisburg. Further appearances in Bordeaux, Lyon, Zürich, Nice and Bologna. From her extensive stage repertoire the title role in Rusalka by Dvorák should particularly be mentioned.

Recordings: Eurodisc (selection from Hoffmanns Erzählungen").
