Marc Souchet (Baritone)

Born: France

The French baritone, Marc Souchet, perfected his singing technique with Jacques Chuilon in Paris.

Marc Souchet has a powerful and warm baritone voice particularly well adapted to the Italian repertoire. In a few years, he has already played the main roles in the country (Rigoletto, Germont, Il conte di Luna, Amonasro, Nabucco, Iago), not to mention Puccini, with Marcello, Scarpia, and Ping (the latter staged by Zhang Yimou, Dir Janos Acs for the production of the Stade de France). In French opera, there are the High Priest in Camille Saint-Saëns' Samson et Dalila, Escamillo in Georges Bizet's Carmen, Ourrias in Mireille, but also Mephistopheles in Charles Gounod's Faust and Orpheus by Gluck. His talents as a recognized actor allow him to excel in Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, as well as in Bartolo, Leporello, Papageno or General Boum in The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein and Agamemnon in La Belle Hélène. He has also participated in several productions of the Opéra en Plein Air, in France and Belgium, under the musical direction of Phillipe Hui and Eric Lederhandler, and staged by Caroline Huppert, Julia Migenes and François de Carpentries.

The contemporary repertoire offers Marc Souchet as many opportunities as the creation at the cathédrale de Beauvais of Requiem pour un déporté by Chrystel Marchand or the role of Karl in the opera Shanti-Ntra Minjung Woo for the Paris CNSM, Carmina Burana in Unesco, and Don Quixote in El Retablo de Maese Pedro by Manuel de Falla under the baton of Charles Dutoit, at the Miyazaki Festival in Japan.

In concert, Marc Souchet has sung Verdi's Requiem (director Laurent Bauer & Edward Norton), C. Gounod's Mass of Saint Cecilia and Philidor's Te Deum by (directed by Thierry Pélicant), Johannes Brahms' Ein Deutches Requiem, L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Felix Mendelssohn's Paulus with the Landesjugendorchester Nordrhein-Westphallen, and Robert Schumann Requiem (directed by Alain Boulfroy).

Among his future engagements: Scarpia in Tosca on tour, Bartolo of the Barber of Seville (Opera of Algiers), J. Brahms' Ein Deutches Requiem.

Marc Souchet recorded Adam in the Eve by Massenet under the direction of Thierry Pélicant (Malibran Records). For France Musiques, he participated in the show by Gaëlle le Gallic Dans la cour des grands.
