Christian Sturm (Tenor)

Born: Andernach/Rhineland. Germany

The German tenor, Christian Sturm, completed his studies at the Hochschule für Musik and Theater München as a master class student of Daphne Evangelatos, Helmut Deutsch and Christian Gerhaher.

Christian Sturm appearances on stage include productions under the direction of Claus Guth, Christian Pöppelreiter, Immo Karaman and David Alden among others. His guest engagements have taken him to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Bayerische Staatsoper and the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich, the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Weimar and Wiesbaden. As a permanent member of the Wuppertaler Bühnen with Maestro Hilary Griffith he build up a broadly based repertoire for his voice with roles such as Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Fenton in Falstaff, Nerone in L'incoronazion di poppea, Steuermann in Der fliegende Holländer, Walther von der Vogelweide in Tannhäuser.

Oratorio and lieder form an important counterweight to Christian Sturms stage work. At the heart of his extensive concert repertoire are the great sacred works by J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel, J. Haydn, W.A. Mozart, Felix Mendelssohn and Benjamin Britten.

Recording include Steffani's Stabat Mater and Le Triomphe de la Paix by Pietro Torri, the Richard Strauss adaption of W.A. Mozart's Idomeneo as well as several productions for the WDR Köln. He currently lives in Munich, Germany.
