Triangle Youth Music (Group of Instrumental Ensembles)

Founded: Raleigh, North Carolina, USA

The Philharmonic Association seeks to foster the love of great music in young musicians by sponsoring eight musical ensembles. These ensembles include three full symphony orchestras and three string orchestras that study and perform great classical music. The different orchestras seek to provide opportunities to 4th through 12th grade musicians of various levels of proficiency. The Triangle Youth Philharmonic, (TYP) , is the most advanced group; the Triangle Youth Symphony, (TYS) , is for moderately advanced musicians; the Triangle Youth Orchestra, (TYO) , is for intermediate students with less orchestral experience; the Triangle Youth Sring Sinfonia, (Sinfonia), and the Triangle Youth String Orchestras, (TYSO) , are for young string players to develop their ensemble skills. The PA also sponsors the Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble, (TYJE), and Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble II, (TYJE II) , for advanced middle and high school musicians interested in studying and performing the best of the big band jazz literature. Hugh Partridge is Artistic Director of Philharmonic Association.

Triangle Youth Philharmonic

The Triangle Youth Philharmonic (= TYP) is the youth orchestra of the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra. Its mission is to provide a stimulating atmosphere in which advanced young musicians from throughout the region can further musical skills in a full-orchestra setting by working with professional musicians and performing great classical music. TYP rehearses in Athens Drive High School band room and performs in Meymandi Concert Hall. McCrae Hardy is Conductor of Triangle Youth Symphony. Hugh Partridge is Conductor of Triangle Youth Philharmonic.

Triangle Youth Symphony

The Triangle Youth Symphony (= TYS) is for young musicians to expand their musical skills. Its mission is to provide a stimulating atmosphere for its members to develop musical skills in a full-orchestra setting by working with professional musicians and performing great classical music. TYS rehearses in the Athens Drive High School band room and performs in Meymandi Concert Hall.

Triangle Youth Orchestra

The Triangle Youth Orchestra (= TYO) is for young intermediate musicians with limited experience. Its mission is to provide a stimulating atmosphere for its members to develop the musical skills necessary to perform in our more advanced full orchestras by working with professional musicians and performing exciting arrangements of great classical music. TYO rehearses in the Leesville High School band room and performs in Meymandi Concert Hall. Tim Kohring is Conductor of Triangle Youth Orchestra; Jacob Wenger is Assistant Conductor.
