The German soprano, Dorothee Tsalos, studied philosophy and musicology. She then turned to singing studies in Karlsruhe, and with Klesie Kelly in Köln. She also attended master-classes with Hilde Zadek, Anna Reynolds and Brigitte Fassbaender, among others. She won multiple awards.
Dorothee Tsalos made her operatic debut in December 1995 at the Staatstheater Braunschweig. In the 1996-1997 she was an ensemble member in Braunschweig. Among her roles: title role in Cavalli’s La Calisto, Pamina in W.A. Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and Zdenka in R. Strauss’ Arabella. In 1997 she an award of the European Music Centre (Manchester). She made her debut as Cinna in W.A. Mozart’s Lucio Silla in February 1998 at the London’s Shaftesbury Theatre. Subsequently she made tours to England, Ireland, and appeared in Copenhagen.
Dorothee Tsalos has also performed in concerts in her homeland and abroad. In 1998 she participated in concerts at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival on the 80th birthday of Leonard Bernstein under the baton of David Shallon. In autumn 1998, she sang in concerts under the baton of Helmuth Rilling in Caracas, Venezuela. She appeared at the Richard Strauss Festival in Garmisch-Partenkirschen and gave Lieder recitals. |
