Meindert Zwart (Counter-tenor)

Born: Indonesia

The Indonesian-born counter-tenor, Meindert [Meinderd] Zwart, studied music education and the flute before turning to the voice. His studies were conducted at the Stedelijk Conservatorium in Groningen and the Hoge School der Kunsten, Amsterdam with Peter Kooy. During this latter course of study he developed an interest in early music and attended master-classes in interpretation with Harry Geraerts, Max van Egmond, Jos van Immerseel and James Bowman. As a student he became an active concert performer in the Netherlands and northern Germany.

Meindert Zwart is now a sought-after soloist with engagements in almost all European countries, Canada and Japan. He is known for his oratorio work and also sings operatic roles, including the lead in Orfeo ed Euridice in 1994 and Dido and Aeneas in 1998. He has also sung on numerous television, radio and CD recordings. For Carpe Diem Meinderd Zwart recorded the CD "Dulcis Memoria".
