Description:

This book provides the meticulously researched and thoroughly documented genealogy of the Bach (Back) family, who migrated to Breathitt County, Kentucky, in 1791. Their ancestors were from Thuringia, Germany, and they were related to J.S. Bach.

Back in 1994, a group of people who called themselves "The Back-Bach Genealogical Society" published a false genealogy of the family. (None of them were genealogists or historians.) They claimed that the family descended from Hermann Bach, who was from Freudenberg, Germany. But that was not true.

They claimed that Hermann had a son named Henry, and that, after Henry died in 1808, his widow Elizabeth moved from Madison County, Virginia, all the way down to Breathitt County, and founded the family there. But that's not true either. After Henry died, she moved to Rockingham County, Virginia. She was seen living there, in the 1810 Census Report with her son Aaron and her two daughters. In fact, she and Aaron were listed on the tax lists there, from 1810 until 1815, when she died. She never went to Kentucky.

This book is based on the extensive work that was done by Dr. Wilgus Bach in the early 1900's, and by Tilden Bach in the late 1900's. All of the research for this book was done in accordance with the strict standards of the Board for Certification of Genealogists, so you can be assured that it is valid. The book contains numerous documents and records that prove the genealogy, as well as hundreds of pictures of the people in this family. It is a real treasure.

Comments:

A new book just published about the descendants of J.S. Bach, who live in America. The immigrant in the family sailed to America in 1740. There are now tens of thousands of his descendants living in America.
