History & Mission:

Exquisite Baroque Concerts

The Bachwochen Thun-Amsoldingen were founded in 1987 by the American flautist Besse Welsh. In 2005 the singing teacher Professor Jakob Stämpfli took over as the music festival’s artistic director. Since 2008 the Bach Weeks have been under the artistic direction of the violinist and cultural manager Julia Vincent (Zentrum Paul Klee Bern). Traditionally the inaugural concert is held in Thun’s parish church, with other concerts performed in Thun’s Romanesque Scherzligen Church. The principal venue is the Amsoldingen Church, which is more than one thousand years old and renowned for its atmospheric setting and unique acoustic, along with its legendary spiritual aura. The Bach Weeks are held every year from mid-August to mid-September and feature outstanding concerts with international soloists.
