Léon Delahaye (Composer, Arranger)

Born: November 22, 1844 - France
Died: June 16, 1896 - France

Léon Delahaye was a French composer active in the second half of the 19th century, pianist and accompaniment professor. He served as Director of Singing at the Opéra de Paris.

Léon Delahaye was a very talented composer of waltzes and other salon pieces. Among his compositions: the minuet Columbinbe, the minuet Les Révérences (composed in or before 1869, dedicated to Antoine-François Marmontel, the influential piano professor at the Paris Conservatoire), and Daniel, oratorio in two parts, with a libretto by Paul Collin. He is remembered today mainly for having made piano reductions of operas by Camille Saint-Saëns and Ambroise Thomas, and also for establishing a Robert Schumann appreciation society in the 1870’s.
