The German editor and composer, Georg Forster, was a chorister at Elector Ludwig V's court in Heidelberg c 1521, and became an eminent physician in Amberg. He collected songs, pursued an interest in literature and met Luther, who encouraged him to compose settings of biblical texts.
Among Georg Forster's esteemed editions is an influential collection of 382 (mostly four-part) German songs, Frischer tentscher Liedlein (Nürnberg, 1539-1556), which covers the German Tenorlied from the late 15th century to the middle of the 16th and enjoyed great popularity. |
