Heinrich Funk (Composer)

Born: 12 April 1904 - Wädenswil, canton of Zürich, Switzerland
Died: February 21, 1977 - Zürich, Switzerland

The Swiss composer, organist and conductor, Heinrich Funk, studied at the Konservatorium Zürich; then in Paris as a pupil of the French organist and composer Marcel Dupré.

In 1926 Heinrich Funk assumed the position of organist at the Reformierten Kirche Wädenswil. In 1930 he became conductor and artistic director of the Kirchengesangsverein (now Kirchen- und Oratorienchor) Wädenswil. In 1933 and 1940 followed by engagements with the Orchesterverein (now the Kammerorchester) Wädenswil, as well as with the Männerchor Eintracht Wädenswil. Funk’s nitiated subscription concerts and engagements included such artists as Maria Stader, Ernst Haefliger, or his former tutor Marcel Dupré for concerts in Wädenswil.

In addition to his musical activities in Wädenswil, Heinrich Funk undertook several concert tours. From 1942 he worked as an organ teacher at the Konservatorium Zürich, and from 1954 as organist at the Zürcher Fraumünster, where he continued his concert career. In addition, he was engaged as organist with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich.
